I’ve been so absorbed in custom projects over the past couple of months that I haven’t had any time to devote to the latest Minted challenges. That, my friends, made me a very sad designer. Thankfully, I had some free time on my hands this weekend, and I was able to enter my first Minted challenge in a couple of months.

The assignment? Children’s stationery.

Here are my entries.

personal stationery - Washi Sorbet
Washi Sorbet

I’ve recently developed a love affair with washi tape. I use it when I package orders from senojal designs, and it definitely inspired this sweet ‘Washi Sorbet‘ stationery.

personal stationery - Vintage Holla
Vintage Holla

Every time I see this design, I snicker a little bit. I realize that it’s not for everyone, but if you’re up for a quirky and fun way to shout out to your friends, my Vintage Holla stationery is for you. What little guy forced into writing thank you notes wouldn’t want to use such funky paper?

personal stationery - preppy little note
Preppy Little Note

If this design looks familiar to you, it’s because it’s reminiscent of my blog design, which translates very well into stationery. Preppy Little Note is a sweet and simple design that’s perfect for penning a note to a friend or writing a thank you note.

personal stationery - Picnics and Pinwheels
Picnics and Pinwheels

And finally, Picnics and Pinwheels is a spin-off design from the little lady’s impending birthday party, which you’ll hear more about later. These notes feature picnic-inspired patterns and colors (hello red gingham) and are classic and modern all at the same time.

It’s been about a year and a half since I launched my stationery design business, and much has changed since those early days. I’d like to think that I’ve refined my design sensibility just a touch, and while my old logo was fun and cute, it didn’t really convey the aesthetic that I aim for these days.

I’m running low on business cards, and as the time to order more drew near, I just couldn’t bring myself to do the same old thing again. I stayed up entirely too late the other night morning working on a new design. Rebranding was in order.

Ready to see the new look?

I’m really pleased with the way it turned out. It’s a little preppy and a lot more refined than the old look, but it also maintains a bit of whimsy. While I was in the redesigning mood, I also made some subtle changes to the look of snippets. The longer I looked at the blog, the more it felt too busy, so I cleaned it up a bit as well.

Snippets used to look like this:

Now it looks like this:

Subtle, I know, but little changes make a big difference. What do you think about the changes to my brand and blog? Talk to me and let me know what you think!

Until next time, grace and peace.

Just when you thought you were through rating designs on Minted, I’m popping in to ask for your votes again. This time, the challenge was birth announcements, and somewhere amid the craziness that was the month of June, I managed to eke out a couple of designs. I had many more ideas, just not the time to execute them. Such is life, I suppose.

birth announcements - Pretty Paisley
Pretty Paisley

The first design, Pretty Paisley, is inspired by the bedding in Micah’s room. You may or may not know this about me, but pink just isn’t my favorite color. Shocking, I know, given the current color scheme of the blog. At any rate, when I found out we were having a little girl, I immediately started looking for decor that wasn’t so, well, girly. I don’t think I’m the only mom out there who wishes there were more options for little girls, hence this birth announcement design that features a non-traditional palette of blues, yellows, and greens.

birth announcements - nametagged
Nametagged

The second birth announcement design, aptly dubbed Nametagged, obviously has a completely different feel to it. It’s not for every set of parents, but those with a lighthearted sense of humor will love it. At least, that’s what I’m hoping. Seriously, how many times have you been thankful that someone was wearing one of those goofy “Hello, my name is” name tags? We’ve all worn them at some point in time, and we’ve all been saved by their presence when we run into people that we ought to know. This design is fun and spunky, and it definitely makes me smile.

Thanks for your support!

Well hello, sweet friends. Have you forgotten what it feels like to see a new blog post from me? Several weeks ago, I decided to momentarily close the etsy shop and take a little break. I never intended to take such a break from the blog as well, but life spun out of control for a little while, and I simply had to tend to the chaos that had become our daily lives. It had gotten to be too much for me to handle.

I’m still trying to find the perfect balance between work and life. I’m not there yet, but I’m working on it.

I’ve finished all of my major writing projects and I’ve gone to youth camp. I’ve washed about 511 loads of laundry and changed as many diapers. I’ve gone running and rocked with Micah and read countless books. I feel like life is finally back under control (for the moment, anyway), and I’m ready to slowly add a few things back.

I quietly reopened the etsy shop at the end of last week, and a couple of orders have already rolled in. I’ve also got a smaller writing assignment to complete in the next couple of days. Life right now is good.

I know that there is much to share with you, and I’ve been promising you updates and backstories for a while now. I’m planning on handling some of that over the next few weeks. I promise I won’t be gone for nearly as long next time. You’ll be hearing from me soon!

Until next time, grace and peace.

I know that it seems as if all of my posts lately revolve around Minted, but that’s because it’s been a very busy month in the Minted world. Voting on the Chronicle Books challenge closed yesterday, and today, voting opened on the Sending Good Cheer Holiday Challenge. Designers submitted over 2,000 entries to the challenge, and the quality of design is simply overwhelming. Because of the staggering number of entries, the Minted staff made a first cut, narrowing the field of designs to 700. Of the eight designs I submitted, two were selected to move on to the voting round.

I’ve already shared both of these designs with you, but I wanted to relink you to them so that you may rate them if you have a free moment. Here they are:

holiday photo cards - M is for Married
M is for Married

I’m totally in love with diagonal stripes right now. They’re a bit preppy and vintage-y, and I love the subtle character they add to this “M is for Married” Christmas card that doubles as a wedding announcement.

holiday photo cards - Twice the Meaning
Twice the Meaning

I’m also totally in love with banners, as evidenced by the recent redesign of snippets. They’re perfect to highlight important details in a design, including a brand new baby’s name, as on this “Twice the Meaning” Christmas card that doubles as a birth announcement.

It’s ironic that the two designs selected were the two I submitted first. Although I’m sad that the rest of my designs got cut, I’m glad that at least a couple made it to the voting round, which will be open for the next five days. If you have some free time, please rate my designs by clicking on the images above, then spend a few minutes rating some of the other designs you see. You’ll be blown away by the talent of my fellow designers.

Thanks for your support!

Until next time, grace and peace.
