Thank you so much for your faithful prayers for Logan. My sweet nephew went home from the hospital Saturday afternoon. He’s still got swelling in his brain, and he will be on anti-seizure medication until the swelling recedes, but for now, he’s doing much better.

Today, I wanted to share a little bit of our recent trip to Cato (the little community that Dennis grew up in). If you’ve been hanging around the blog for long, you know that we celebrate the Fourth of July in right fashion, with a fish fry and turtle race at the church. It’s always a fun night, filled with good food and good fun.

This year was no exception.

In years past, the men in our family have gone to great lengths (dragging the pond, etc.) to secure turtles for our entries in the race. This year, turtle acquisition was much easier, as Pop had set up a trap in the pond several months prior.

A couple of days before the race, they checked the trap and were surprised to find five turtles in there. Who knows how long they’d been there. Not us. At any rate, we had several turtles to race (and share).

As usual, Lauren named all of our turles, but for the life of me, I can’t remember any of them except Sweet T(ea). Both Lauren and Micah had a turtle that placed, but Logan’s didn’t do so well, so he demanded a rematch when we got home from the church.

Much fun was had by all. Hope you enjoy this video of the rematch. As you can tell, Logan’s turtle performed well :)

Until next time, grace and peace.

Wow. Yesterday, when I wrote about Logan’s seizures, I had no idea that so many of you would pray and pass the message along. I watched in shock last night as the ticker on my blog rose higher and higher, and I was completely overwhelmed by the vast number of you who took a few minutes to hear Logan’s story and say a prayer for him. Thank you so very much. It’s appreciated much more than you can imagine.

Prayers work, just so you know.

They’ve moved Logan out of ICU and into a normal hospital room, and the doctors expect that he will continue to improve. As of now, I’m not sure how much longer he’ll be in the hospital, but the doctors say that the swelling in his brain should go down on its own over the course of the next several days. In the meantime, they are keeping him on medication to prevent any more scary seizures while the swelling recedes.

Maybe before too long, he’ll be playing ball again.

He’s not completely out of the woods yet, but things seem to be looking up for our little man. If you are the praying type, we would appreciate your continued prayers. I will keep you updated on his progress.

Thank you!

Until next time, grace and peace.

See that cute little guy on the left? That’s my nephew Logan. He’s a rambunctious, active little man. Well, he’s usually rambunctious and active.

Right now he’s in the ICU.

These photos were all taken over the Fourth of July weekend. On July 5, he had a couple of very severe seizures that landed him in the hospital. After running countless tests, the doctors determined that he had a form of viral meningitis. They kept a close eye on him for several days, but over the weekend, he was released from the hospital and returned home.

Last night he started seizing again.

The doctors are still performing tests. He has swelling on both sides of his brain, and they’re now thinking that he has encephalitis that has perhaps been induced by the meningitis.

He’s in bad shape, y’all.

I tell you all of this to ask for your prayers. Pray for wisdom on the part of the doctors. Pray for a clear diagnosis and effective treatment. Pray for swift healing. Pray for easing of pain, cessation of seizures, and restorative rest. Pray for strength and comfort for his parents during this time.

Please pray. Logan needs all the help you can give.

Until next time, grace and peace.

Well hello, sweet friends. Have you forgotten what it feels like to see a new blog post from me? Several weeks ago, I decided to momentarily close the etsy shop and take a little break. I never intended to take such a break from the blog as well, but life spun out of control for a little while, and I simply had to tend to the chaos that had become our daily lives. It had gotten to be too much for me to handle.

I’m still trying to find the perfect balance between work and life. I’m not there yet, but I’m working on it.

I’ve finished all of my major writing projects and I’ve gone to youth camp. I’ve washed about 511 loads of laundry and changed as many diapers. I’ve gone running and rocked with Micah and read countless books. I feel like life is finally back under control (for the moment, anyway), and I’m ready to slowly add a few things back.

I quietly reopened the etsy shop at the end of last week, and a couple of orders have already rolled in. I’ve also got a smaller writing assignment to complete in the next couple of days. Life right now is good.

I know that there is much to share with you, and I’ve been promising you updates and backstories for a while now. I’m planning on handling some of that over the next few weeks. I promise I won’t be gone for nearly as long next time. You’ll be hearing from me soon!

Until next time, grace and peace.

Mama and me, circa 2008

Dear Mama,

I somehow managed to send you a package for Mother’s Day without including a card from myself. Silly, I know, that a stationery designer didn’t send her own Mama a mother’s day card, but I hope you’ll forgive me. Micah drew you a picture. I hope you liked it.

She’s a mess these days, Mama, and being Micah’s Mommy helps me appreciate all the things you’ve done for me over the years. How frustrated you must have been with me when I threw all of those terrible tantrums! And even though you left me in the grocery store that one time, you came back to get me. Thanks for that.

Seriously, Mom, I’m more grateful for you now than I ever was then. Being a mom changes things. It really does. Thank you for making sure we were always taken care of. For taking me to the library and teaching me to love reading. For hauling me around to 5,000 different ballgames and practices. For staying up all hours of the night painting for craft shows that funded our Christmas presents. For putting us before yourself. For hand-smocking me dresses and rolling my hair on those pink spongy rollers. For taking me to church and introducing me to the Lord. For creating a home that was always safe and secure and smelled like chocolate chip cookies. For always believing in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself. And mostly, mom, for loving me. Always for loving me.

You are quite a special lady, and I love you more than you could ever imagine. Know that you’re appreciated and loved, and all of those things you did for us didn’t go unnoticed. I promise. So Happy Mother’s Day, Mama! I wish I could celebrate it with you in person, but I’m definitely celebrating you in my heart.

Guess what, Mama? Only you know.
