Meeting a Mentor

Last night, Micah got to meet one of the most important men in my life. It was well past her bedtime and she was exhausted (hence the look on her face in the picture), but I'm so glad she finally got to meet her Uncle Robert.

It would be an understatement to say that I approached my preaching classes at Beeson with trepidation. I wasn't exactly the kind of person who enjoyed standing up in front of a crowd and speaking. I've always been more comfortable behind a keyboard than a podium.

But God doesn't always keep us where we're comfortable.

Dr. Robert Smith is without doubt one of the best preachers in America. I am so privileged not only to know him but to call him my mentor and friend. He has prayed for me. Strengthened me. Encouraged me. Challenged me.

And last night, Micah got to meet him. It was so sweet to see my little girl with one of the most influential people in my life. I hope that it's the first of many meetings.

How To Tuesday: Magnetic Matchbook Bookmark

Toward the end of last week as I was engrossed in reading, I realized that I could do much better than the scrap of cardboard I was using for a bookmark, so I whipped up this little cutie for this week's How To Tuesday. Apparently, I'm on a magnet crafting kick lately.

A set of these in cute patterns would be a nice little happy for a college student starting classes soon. They would also make good stocking stuffers for your favorite bookworms.

Ready to make your own? Here goes.

You'll need some scrap paper, magnetic strips, a ruler, a pencil, scissors, and a scoring board (optional).

{1} Measure a 1 1/2 by 3 1/8 inch rectangle on your paper.

{2} Cut it out.

{3} Score/Fold your paper at 1 1/2 and 1 5/8 inches.

{4} Fold your paper into a "matchbook."

{5} Cut two 1-inch magnetic strips.

{6} Remove adhesive backing from one of the strips and adhere to the inside of your bookmark.

{7} Stick your second magnet to the one you've already attached to your paper. Then remove backing.

{8} Fold bookmark over magnets, adhering the second magnet to the other side.

Slide the bookmark around a few pages in your current read, then step back and admire your handiwork!

Get Your Make-Up On

With Logan being so sick, things around here have been kind of heavy lately. I thought it was only fitting to lighten the load a bit with some snapshots from our daily life.

Micah is a copycat. She has entered the stage of toddlerhood where she mimics nearly everything I do, including getting ready in the mornings.

For the past couple of months, we've Dennis has been working on a bathroom remodel, which meant that I got ready in our bedroom most days. Micah was all about it.

As soon as I said it was time to get ready, she'd run to get her make-up bag (filled with travel-sized brushes and empty bottles), plop down in front of the mirror and start rubbing her face.

Priceless.

At least, that's what I think.
