The Great Cato Turtle Race: 2011

Note: This is a follow-up post regarding some medical trouble that my nephew has had. You can read all the posts about Logan's condition here. The posts are listed by recency, so start reading at the bottom of the list. Thank you so much for your faithful prayers for Logan. My sweet nephew went home from the hospital Saturday afternoon. He's still got swelling in his brain, and he will be on anti-seizure medication until the swelling recedes, but for now, he's doing much better.

Today, I wanted to share a little bit of our recent trip to the little community where Dennis grew up. If you've been hanging around the blog for long, you know that we celebrate the Fourth of July in right fashion, with a fish fry and turtle race at the church. It's always a fun night, filled with good food and good fun.

This year was no exception.

In years past, the men in our family have gone to great lengths (dragging the pond, etc.) to secure turtles for our entries in the race. This year, turtle acquisition was much easier, as Pop had set up a trap in the pond several months prior.

A couple of days before the race, they checked the trap and were surprised to find five turtles in there. Who knows how long they'd been there. Not us. At any rate, we had several turtles to race (and share).

As usual, Lauren named all of our turles, but for the life of me, I can't remember any of them except Sweet T(ea). Both Lauren and Micah had a turtle that placed, but Logan's didn't do so well, so he demanded a rematch when we got home from the church.

Much fun was had by all. Hope you enjoy this video of the rematch. As you can tell, Logan's turtle performed well :)

Overwhelmation and Update on Logan

Note: This is a follow-up post regarding some medical trouble that my nephew has had. You can read all the posts about Logan's condition here. The posts are listed by recency, so start reading at the bottom of the list.

Wow. Yesterday, when I wrote about Logan's seizures, I had no idea that so many of you would pray and pass the message along. I watched in shock last night as the ticker on my blog rose higher and higher, and I was completely overwhelmed by the vast number of you who took a few minutes to hear Logan's story and say a prayer for him. Thank you so very much. It's appreciated much more than you can imagine.

Prayers work, just so you know.

They've moved Logan out of ICU and into a normal hospital room, and the doctors expect that he will continue to improve. As of now, I'm not sure how much longer he'll be in the hospital, but the doctors say that the swelling in his brain should go down on its own over the course of the next several days. In the meantime, they are keeping him on medication to prevent any more scary seizures while the swelling recedes.

Maybe before too long, he'll be playing ball again.

He's not completely out of the woods yet, but things seem to be looking up for our little man. If you are the praying type, we would appreciate your continued prayers. I will keep you updated on his progress.

Thank you!

Until next time, grace and peace.

Prayers for Logan

See that cute little guy on the left? That's my nephew Logan. He's a rambunctious, active little man. Well, he's usually rambunctious and active.

Right now he's in the ICU.

These photos were all taken over the Fourth of July weekend. On July 5, he had a couple of very severe seizures that landed him in the hospital. After running countless tests, the doctors determined that he had a form of viral meningitis. They kept a close eye on him for several days, but over the weekend, he was released from the hospital and returned home.

Last night he started seizing again.

The doctors are still performing tests. He has swelling on both sides of his brain, and they're now thinking that he has encephalitis that has perhaps been induced by the meningitis.

He's in bad shape, y'all.

I tell you all of this to ask for your prayers. Pray for wisdom on the part of the doctors. Pray for a clear diagnosis and effective treatment. Pray for swift healing. Pray for easing of pain, cessation of seizures, and restorative rest. Pray for strength and comfort for his parents during this time.

Please pray. Logan needs all the help you can give.

Until next time, grace and peace.
